Fifty-three Vietnamese Venerables promoted

Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam -- Fifty-three Venerables in Ho Chi Minh City have been promoted to Most Venerables.

The promotion was announced by the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha Central Committee’s Patronage Council at the Ho Chi Minh City Buddhist Sangha’s meeting on January 25.

The municipal Buddhist Sangha reported that it had raised VND 79.4 billion and collected 86.5 tonnes of rice for charitable activities in 2007.

It also sponsored the construction of 216 houses and cataract surgeries for the poor last year.
