World Buddhist Conference on Nov 3

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia -- Several Buddhist organisations in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur are holding the World Buddhist Conference on Nov 3 and 4, at Istana Hotel, Jalan Raja Chulan, here.
The theme of the conference is "Transcending Negative Emotions -- To Create Happiness and Wellbeing in Our Lives". It is aimed at those seeking practical advice on how to find inner peace and harmony.
Keynote speaker Tai Situpa Rinpoche will give practical advice on developing a healthy body and mind.
Than Hsiang Temple Penang abbot Venerable Wei Wu, who is involved in welfare projects such as the setting up and running of kindergartens, orphanages, and homes for the aged throughout Malaysia, will share his experiences on how social work can be an expression of the Buddhist teaching of compassion or bodhicitta.
Theravada Buddhist nun and one of Thailand's best known Buddhist scholars Venerable Bhikkhuni Dr Dhammananda will speak on the emotional wellbeing of Buddhist women in the modern world.
Some international speakers include Venerable Dr Phra Sugandha, Venerable Geshe Dadul Namgyal, Venerable Thubten Chokyi, Venerable Dr Shi Zhen Jue, Dhammacari Lokamitra and Prof Dr Lobsang Rapgay.
Registration fee is RM380 per adult and RM270 per full-time student. The closing date for registration is Oct 1. Vegetarian meals and refreshments are included in the fee.
