Kinrara Metta Celebrates 20th Anniversary by Helping Other Organizations

The Buddhist Channel, 30 June 2024

Puchong, Selangor (Malaysia) -- Kinrara Metta Buddhist Society (KMBS) celebrated its 20th anniversary on 29 June 2024 by sharing its joy with Buddhist centres and temples from the Klang Valley (greater Kuala Lumpur). About 100 representatives from various centres participated in the ceremonies and events organized for the day.

The ceremony included a Maha Sanghika dana, which involved Bhikkhus and Bhikkhunis from the three main traditions of Mahayana, Theravada, and Vajrayana. Those in attendance were able to participate in a pindapata offering for monks and nuns at the field located opposite KMBS.

In his opening speech, KMBS Spiritual Advisor Chief Sangha Nayaka Ven. B. Sri Saranankara Maha Thera said that he was heartened that KMBS decided to commemorate its 20th year by helping other organizations to alleviate some of their financial burden.

Ven. Saranankara said that as Buddhist populations grow, more Buddhist centres are required in these new locations.

"Share and give love to our brother and sister organizations to lessen their burden. This is putting metta into practice," implored the venerable.

Sister Julie Tan, the current President of KMBS, highlighted in her speech the various ways the society has grown its activities to reach out to its members. She thanked Buddhist organizations who helped KMBS in its initial growth stages. In return, KMBS has decided to "give back" by raising funds in its 20th anniversary to help some of the centres around the region in need of funds.

"We really wanted the meaning of metta expressed in concrete action," she said.

The event also displayed videos and narrations showcasing KMBS's 20-year journey to disseminate the Buddha's Dharma and to build a strong community.

About Kinrara Metta Buddhist Society (KMBS)

Formed in 2004, KMBS began on the first floor of a double-storey shop lot in Bandar Kinrara, Puchong. The owner of the shop was kind enough to allow for ten years of rent-free use, which helped KMBS tremendously in its nascent growth. It moved to its current premises in 2012.

KMBS operates on its core values of faith, learning, contemplation, courage, integrity, loving-kindness, and service. These principles are demonstrated and applied through its various services such as Dhammaduta, Metta Care (educare, free clinic, etc.), Building Fellowship, and Dhamma Dipa (Sunday Dhamma School).
