PETALING JAYA, Malaysia -- A charity vegetarian banquet held on 7 Oct 2026 in Sentul, Kuala Lumpur, has brought together devotees and well-wishers in support of a new Buddhist centre in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, organised by Fo Guang Shan (FGS) Malaysia.

The event, held under the theme of FGS’s 60th anniversary and the centenary of its founder Venerable Master Hsing Yun, featured the premiere of a stage production titled “60 Years of Passing the Lamp, Honouring a 100-Year Legacy.”
Venerable Ru Xing, Deputy Abbess of FGS Malaysia, emphasised that building a temple is a collective effort to create a future for the propagation of the Dharma.
“A temple is made possible by the contributions of many; a Buddhist centre comes together through the convergence of many causes and conditions,” she said in a statement.
The stage production, performed entirely by volunteers from FGS study classes, BLIA members, and medical volunteers aged between 7 and 80, chronicled Master Hsing Yun’s life journey from his birth and ordination in China to his arrival in Taiwan and the subsequent spread of Humanistic Buddhism to Malaysia.
Organising committee chairman Tey Hwee Len said the community was supporting not merely the work of Dharma teachers or volunteers but the realisation of a shared vision for a more compassionate, understanding, and wise society.
She noted that FGS Malaysia has engaged people across generations through community education programmes, Buddhist practice sessions, youth and children’s activities, and volunteer services.
Guests at the banquet included Kampung Tunku assemblyman Lim Yi Wei, Selangor MCA deputy chairman Tan Kim Chuan, and representatives from the Buddhist community.
The evening concluded with prayers, blessings, and Dharma teachings led by Venerable Ru Xing and Venerable Jue Cheng.
