In a statement issued at the Young Buddhists Association of Malaysia, it said that Buddha relics are highly respected among Buddhists. As such, the display of such relics needs to be verified by reputable archaeologists.
The statement further states that the committee questions the authenticity of the large number of relics being promoted to the public, and that they feel "terribly suspicious" over the various names given to the different type of relics.
The statement also pointed out that the Buddha explicitly discouraged the worship of His body, what more of relics.
Given the dubious nature of the claims by the organizer, the MBCC appealed to the Buddhist the public not to support the event nor attend the relics expo. The MBCC also said that they do not condone the act of any party who uses the so called "Buddha relics" on a commercial basis to solicit for funds or monetary donations.
