Malaysia's largest Maha Vihara offers Diploma in Buddhism

The Buddhist and Pali University of Sri Lanka approves affiliation with the Buddhist Maha Vihara of Kuala Lumpur
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia -- The Buddhist Maha Vihara of Kuala Lumpur announced today that its application to set up a Buddhist education center affiliated to the Buddhist and Pali University of Sri Lanka has been approved. The University holds membership in the Association of Universities of the Commonwealth.
The Buddhist Institute is currently offering the Diploma in Buddhism for the year 2007/2008. Applications are invited from those interested to register for this course. The name “The Buddhist Institute” was proposed by the late Chief Reverend, Ven. Dr. K. Sri Dhammananda Nayaka Maha Thera and has been adopted by the current Venerable Chief, Ven. K. Sri Dhammaratana Nayaka Maha Thera.
Registration and Examination fee consists of a one time payment of RM 600 (US$ 170). Lectures will commence in August 2007, to be held on Saturdays from 2-7pm onwards at the Vihara.
The Diploma in Buddhism consists of 5 subjects including the optional Pali Qualifying Paper. The Pali Paper is however recommended for those interested to pursue the
Degree program. The subjects are as follows:
1. Early Buddhism- Basic Doctrines
2. Buddhist Social Dimensions
3. Geographical Expansion of Theravada Buddhism
4. Early History of Buddhism till 3rd Century BC
5. Pali
Closing date for registration is July 16, 2007. Application forms can be obtained from the Buddhist Maha Vihara. Applicants must be 18 years of age at the time of registration.
Applicants are required to fill the application and examination forms and submit two passport sized photographs and a copy of their Identity Card.
