Funding for dialysis centre in Malaysian Budhist centre

KUANTAN, Malaysia -- Philanthropists have come forward to support the Pahang Buddhist Association's (PBA) haemodialysis centre by donating cash and kind for end-stage renal failure patients.
Leading the pack were Pahang Chinese Assembly Hall president Tan Sri Pheng Yin Huah with an undisclosed sum, Wong Yong Pah (RM12,000), Lim Ah Sai (RM6,000), Datuk Jenny and Ravi Moorthi (RM5,000 each) and Kuantan Hawkers and Small Traders Association (RM500).
Two others, Ong Seng Chong and Wong Chi Yin, each donated a haemodialysis machine valued at RM40,000.
The state chipped in by giving a piece of land adjacent to the PBA ground in Jalan Bukit Ubi for the centre's relocation.
At a recent ground-breaking ceremony, building committee chairman Datuk Franky Chua said the site in Taman Zurina, Jalan Datuk Wong Ah Jang, was too congested.
He said the new building costing RM3mil would accommodate more patients and machines.
“So far, we have raised RM1.8mil and hope the public will contribute to make the project a reality.
“Presently, we have 12 machines operating on three shifts a day to cater to a full capacity of 43 patients.
“Our target is to have at least 35 machines as the number of people diagnosed with kidney failure is increasing,” he said, adding that records from the Health Ministry showed there was an average of 2,000 new patients a year.
Chua said the centre would serve as an alternative for poor patients who could not afford expensive treatment at private hospitals.
“We do not give treatment based on race or religion.
“As long as we have the capacity, any patient with end-stage renal failure and from a poor background will be accepted,” he said.
He thanked all parties which contributed including the architect who provided free consultancy service on the building plan, and urged them to continue giving their support.
The public can send in donations to PBA Hemodialysis Centre, Lot PT 57339, Jalan Bukit Ubi, Kuantan.
