350 attend medical camp in Malaysia

The Star, May 13, 2008

JOHOR BARU, Johor (Malaysia) -- Some 350 people turned up for free glucose and urine tests at the Metta Lodge Pusat Buddhist centre here recently.

The medical camp organised by the centre and supported by the Johor Specialist Hospital was held in conjunction with Wesak Day celebrations and the group’s 25th anniversary.

Organising chairman Dr Lim Seng Kwei said that medicine was prescribed free for the visitors.

“We also gave free medical check ups and bone scans. The camp is purely charitable,” he said.

Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Shahrir Samad, who launched the event, said he was impressed by the turnout.

Stulang assemblyman Mok Chek Hou said that religious groups should diversify their roles and help the Government maintain stability in society through such activities.

The drive also saw some 40 blood donors and 30 who pledged organs.
