Buddhists to take part in mammoth chanting event

The Star. October 18, 2009

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia -- Buddhists from all over the country are expected to gather today at the Thean Hou Temple in Robson Heights here to pray for the wellbeing of Malaysians.

The event is organised by the Guanyin World Peace and Harmony Puja movement in collaboration with the Chinese Ge Sar Culture Association and the Vajrayana Buddhist Council of Malaysia.

The movement’s adviser Datuk Seri Tan Chai Ho and its chairman Datuk Liu Thim Soon said at a press conference recently that the event was being held as a result of the Influenza A(H1N1) epidemic.

“We will be praying for the safety of all Malaysians as well as for those who had died of A(H1N1),” said Liu.

He added that the event would begin at 8.30am and end at 9.30am tomorrow.

Everyone attending the session would chant the mantra Om Mani Pad Me Hum, invoking the Goddess Quan Yin in unison, said Liu.

He also said that Malaysian Buddhists were invited to take part in the mammoth chanting session.
