Singapore's Ming Yi goes on trial in April for fraud

By Elena Chong, The Straits Times, Jan 6, 2009

Singapore -- A JUDGE yesterday ordered high-profile Buddhist monk Shi Ming Yi and his former personal assistant to stand trial in April on allegations that they falsified the financial records of Ren Ci Hospital.

Ming Yi, whose real name is Goh Kah Heng, faces 10 charges stemming from a scandal that has battered what was once one of Singapore's most prominent charities.

The monk is accused of, among other things, forgery, lying to Singapore's charity watchdog and misappropriating $350,000.
