Craving

by Mallika Sirisuriya, The Buddhist Channel, June 4, 2010

The six doors of perception
The eye, ear, nose, tongue, body and mind
Make contact with the external world

And experience sensations
Some pleasant some unpleasant
But on the whole seem pleasing

And thus is born craving
We do not realise that craving
Leads to suffering

We cling on to these pleasant sensations
And imagine that it is happiness
And we go on grasping

Little realising that this happiness
Will elude us
And what awaits us is

Birth and old age and death and birth again
Endlessly in Samsara
