Gloucester Daily Times, June 20, 2014
Cape Ann, MA (USA) -- Lama Marut, the spiritual leader of Cape Ann’s growing Buddhist community, will be in town over the next few days as part of a North American tour on the heels of his latest book, “Be Nobody.”
The local group, which is now called Wisdom’s Heart and has a center in Rockport, embraces Mahayana Buddhism.
Marut’s appearances on Cape Ann begin on Saturday from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., with a talk titled “Explorations in Emptiness: The Emptiness of Self, Part 1.” Part of a four-class intermediate-level course, the talk is held at Wisdom’s Heart at 154 Granite St. in Rockport.
“Lama Marut is brilliant, clear and witty,” said actress Lindsay Crouse, who is a part of Wisdom Heart. “Everyone — from every walk of life and from every tradition — can benefit by what he says.
“The insights in his wonderful new book could change your life,” added Crouse, who earned an Academy Award nomination for best supporting actress in the film “Places in the Heart,” and has often performed in presentations at Gloucester Stage Company. “They are just what the doctor ordered for this troubled old world.”
The additional course meeting dates are: Sunday, June 22, from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., and Monday, June 23 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and Tuesday, June 24 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
