Tibetan research is conference focus at Princeton

Princeton, NJ (USA) -- An interdisciplinary conference, "Art History, Buddhist Studies, Tibet: New Perspectives From the Tibet Site Seminar," will be held Friday through Sunday, March 7-9, in 101 McCormick Hall.
The conference will open at 4:30 p.m. March 7 with a keynote address, "A Translational Methodology: Toward a Study of Tibetan Art History," by art historian Deborah Klimburg-Salter of the University of Vienna.
The weekend sessions will focus on research stemming from a one-month seminar for doctoral students conducted in 2007 by Stephen F. Teiser, Princeton's D.T. Suzuki Professor in Buddhist Studies.
The seminar in Tibet, which was long inaccessible to scholars, offered unprecedented opportunities for researchers to explore its treasures and expand the study of Buddhism and Tibetan culture.
The conference is sponsored by the Center for the Study of Religion and the Tang Center for East Asian Art. It also is supported by the Henry Luce Foundation, which sponsored the Tibet site seminar.
