PROVINCETOWN, MA (USA) -- Geshe Damcho Gyaltsen, a venerated Tibetan monk and director of the Institute of Buddhist Dialectics in Dharamsala, India, will visit Provincetown Oct. 5-22 to hold free two-hour seminars and meditation sessions at a home in the East End and at the Hawthorne School on Miller Hill Road.

An introduction to Tibetan Madhyamaka Buddhism meditation will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 5 at 611 Commercial St., followed by a potluck dinner. Gyaltsen’s second seminar, at 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 6 in the same location, will address the meaning of history within Madhyamak Buddhism.

At 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 7, and Wednesday, Oct. 8, also at 611 Commercial St., Gyaltsen will answer questions about Buddhist philosophy and hold a discussion regarding Buddhist practice and wisdom. In his final seminar at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 12, Gyaltsen will talk about the “middle way” between eternalism and nihilism, followed by meditation and a potluck dinner at the Hawthorne School barn on Miller Hill Road.

Born in the eastern province of Kham, Tibet, Gyaltsen has been studying Buddhism since the age of five. In 1959 he went into exile in India, where he began teaching. In 1979 he received the highest degree of Geshe Lharampa.

This will be his second visit to the tip of the Cape. While on a tour of the U.S. in the spring of 2007, Gyaltsen stopped in Provincetown to give talks and teach seminars.
