Leesburg, VA (USA) -- Plans for a Buddhist retreat near Plantation at Leesburg will be discussed Wednesday by the Lake County Planning & Zoning Board.

The Vietnamese-American Buddhist Association Ky Vien Tu Inc. is seeking an amendment allowing a “meditation retreat center for religious worship, education, meditation training, office and related uses” to be included as an additional use in a community facility zoning district along U.S. Highway 27, north of Palm Way.

The 16-acre parcel is south and east of Plantation at Leesburg, with Palm’s Mobile Home Estates to the west.

Planned for the parcel is up to a 12,300-square-foot meditation hall, a 2,500-square-foot staff housing unit, 17 instructor cabins with a combined total of 6,920 square feet, three student/trainee dormitories with a combined total of 12,000 square feet, a 1,900-square-foot multi-purpose structure, a dining hall, kitchen and a pagoda.

The multi-purpose structure will be used for six special events a year.

The board meets at 9 a.m. in the Commission Chambers at the County Administration Building, 315 W. Main St. in Tavares.
