Tibetan groups in North Carolina celebrates Dalai Lama's birthday and World Tibet day

North Carolina, USA -- Association Cognizance Tibet, North Carolina and Kadampa Center, a Buddhist Center founded by Lama Zopa Rinpoche in 1992,jointly organised a celebration program in honour of His Holiness the Dalai Lama's 71st birthday and observed the World Tibet Day on July 9.

The program began with Sangsol (purification ritual), putting up prayer flags and offering of Solja Dresil - traditional Tibetan ceremonial rice and tea in front of His Holiness' portrait and served to all the guests.

Lighting the butter lamp and offering Jaldhar to His Holiness' portrait and a group Tibetan song with traditional musical instruments were some of the highlights of the program. A documentary on His Holiness titled Compassion in Exile was screened at the end of the program.

North Carolina is one of the southern states in the US where Tibetan families have begun to settle. Association Cognizance Tibet, NC is trying to reach out to educational institutions and general public to create awareness on Tibet in the area.

Celebration of His Holiness the Dalai Lama's Birthday and observance of World Tibet Day are annual events organised by the group in North Carolina.
