Annual Kathina ceremony held at Indiana Buddhist Temple

Fort Wayne, Indiana (USA) -- Indiana Buddhist Temple in Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA held its 5th annual Katina ceremony on October 25th with the participation of both Buddhist and non-Buddhist communities.

The guests were welcomed by the incumbent monks, Ven. Thalangama Devananda, Ven. Babarende Sumeda and Ven, Neluwe Seelawimala.

The event began at 10:30 a.m. under the guidance of Ven. Talangama Devananda, the chief incumbent and with the blessings of twenty Buddhist monks.

Chief Prelate of the Lankarama Temple in Los Angeles, CA gave the main speech at the ceremony.

Following the alms giving to the monks Katina procession took place under the organization of the Nilames (custodians) [L -> R in the picture] Dr. Chandrasiri Cabraal of Urbana-Champaign, IL, Lakshman Wickremaarchchi of Torrance, CA and Dr. G. Premachandra of West Lafayette, IN.

Ritual offering of the Katina Robe to the monks took place next. This year the Katina robe was offered by California businessman Lakshman Wickremaarchchi and his wife Anoja in memory of their departed parents. The family also donated a beautiful Buddha statue to the Temple.

The event was concluded with a sermon and a Pirith chanting by the monks.
