The lama's visit falls during Saga Dawa, which commemorates the enlightenment of Buddha. It is a time when the karmic results of virtuous and nonvirtuous actions are magnified. The period ends with the full moon on June 11.
Those who attend the gatherings will practice lessons taught by the lama to alleviate suffering and generate peace. In keeping with the Tibetan custom of generosity practiced during this time, boxes will be available at each event to collect donations of food for the homeless.
The first sessions, Bodhisattva Way Teachings, the Prajnaparamita and the Six Perfections and the Heart Sutra, will take place at the Longhouse, A Well Being Centre, 2309 49th St. S., Gulfport. The sessions, which will offer lessons for developing a compassionate heart, will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The suggested donation is $10 each night.
