THE DAILY PRESS, August 5, 2006

Atlanta, GA (USA) -- Geshe Lobsang Tenzin of the Drepung Loseling Monastery in Atlanta will give two free lectures in the coming week at The American Theatre in Hampton.

"Meditation & Healing: Bridging Science and Spirituality" will be heard at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. His lecture will examine how, in the Buddhist tradition, positive mental and emotional states that enhance health and well-being can be cultivated through meditation.

"The Symbolism of the Sand Mandala," an informal talk and visual presentation, will take place at 1 p.m. Aug. 12. Tenzin will discuss the hundreds of symbols found in the mandala sand painting that is being constructed next week at the theater.

Tenzin studied at the Institute of Buddhist Dialectics and earned a doctorate at Emory University in Atlanta.

He currently chairs the Emory-Tibet Partnership, which brings together Western learning and the Tibetan Buddhist sciences of mind and healing.
