Akron, Ohio (USA) -- Tibetan Buddhist monks from the Dzindu Monastery in India who are touring the United States will stop at Unity Chapel of Light, 503 Northwest Ave., Tallmadge, for nine days beginning Friday.

Their visit will open with a presentation, Energy Healing: A Buddhist Perspective, by Geshe Ganka Rinpoche, head of the Dzindu Monastery. The two-hour event will begin at 7:30 p.m. and a $10 offering is suggested.

Next Saturday, the monks will share basic teachings of Buddhism, from 10 a.m. to noon. A Tara (female Buddha) teaching is planned from 1:45 to 2:30 p.m. and a Mandala (a symbolic picture of the universe) teaching will run from 2:45 to 3:30 p.m. On Nov. 9, Rinpoche will deliver the message at the 10 a.m. service at the church, followed by the opening ceremony for the Mandala at 1 p.m., with viewing until 7 p.m. A healing service runs from 1:45 to 2:45 p.m. and a session called Medicine Buddha Empowerment will be offered from 3 to 5 p.m.

The monks will continue to construct the sand Mandala Nov. 10-14. The public is invited to view the process from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Thursday and Friday, and 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday. Rinpoche will teach about meditation from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Nov. 12.

On Nov. 15, White Tara Empowerment will be presented from 10 a.m. to noon, and a teaching about monastic life in India will run from 1:30 to 2:15 p.m. The closing ceremony and dismantling of the Mandala will be 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.

The monks, who have been exiled, are touring the country to share a message of love, compassion and wisdom and teach the public about ancient Buddhist traditions through lectures, prayers and ritual ceremonies. An offering will be accepted at the door for all events. Proceeds go to the monks and their monastery, now based in Mundgod, India.
