Buddhist relics exhibit to be held in Tucson

Nogales International, November 20, 2007

Tucson, Arizona (USA) -- The Buddha is coming to Tucson and during the holiday season Tucsonans will have the rare opportunity to experience the Heart Shrine Relics at no charge.

The opening ceremonies are on Friday, Dec. 14, from 7 p.m.-10 p.m. The exhibit will be Saturday and Sunday, Dec.15-16, from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. The free exhibit will be at the Anjali Yoga Studio and Day Spa at 330 E. 7th St. in Tucson.

These relics capture the essence of loving kindness embodied by the Buddha. They are crystal-like objects left behind by a number of Buddhist masters, including the Buddha himself. The objects remained when the bodies of these masters were cremated.

The event is part of a world tour of more than 100 cities across North America, Asia, Russia, and the Pacific Rim. While appreciating the beauty of the collection, visitors have experienced a sense of peace and love - even healing.

University of Arizona psychologist Dr. Victor Shamas, who has been instrumental in bringing the tour to Tucson, notes. "Being in the presence of the Relics was a profound, life-changing experience for me. Four hours passed, and it felt more like four minutes. I have never experienced anything like it."

When the world tour is over, the collection will be permanently installed in a shrine being built in Kushinagar, India, which is scheduled for completion in 2010.
