Israel and Lebanon: What You Can Do
San Francisco, USA -- Joanna Macy reminds us that despair is a necessary step on the way to empowerment and action. Many of us may find ourselves deep in despair these days, as we watch news reports of the seemingly endless cycle of violence taking place in Israel and Lebanon.
It may seem as though the pain and rage is so deep and the historical roots of the conflict so entwined that there is nothing anyone can do to stop it.
The Buddhist Peace Fellowship have created a "Middle East Peace Page" on its website to offer some sources of hope amidst the despair, tools to educate yourself more about what's going on, and finally some actions that can help make a difference.
Action 1: Organize or attend a vigil calling for an immediate ceasefire. Many vigils are being planned for Monday, August 7. Click on the link below for more information.
Action 2: If you live in the U.S., contact your congressional representative during the week of Aug 7-11 and ask them to back the Kucinich and Jackson-Lee ceasefire resolutions.
