Along with world-renowned musician Tenzin Choegyal, the monks will be presenting the traditional Tibetan Buddhist rituals of sand mandala painting and chanting. The tour will be performing at such venues as the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C., and the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City.

The Sept. 30 event in Redding will begin with the ritual of mandala painting with sand from 1 to 2. “This is one of the most unique forms of sacred art, in which monks depict the wholeness of the organizational structure of life itself in a cosmic circular diagram. Everyone is welcome to participate in this creative experience,” the center said in its press release.

From 2 to 3, there will be a concert with the traditional Tibetan chanting of the world-renowned Namgyal monks and Tenzin Choegyal, “whose voice and musical talents are uniquely beautiful as he draws on his traditional Tibetan roots to create music which expresses his thoroughly modern life.”

The Compassionate Mandala Tour “is focused on the need for all of us to recognize the importance of compassion for our fellow humans, all other life forms, the earth and the self. During this time of intense global unrest, learning compassion is an essential avenue for peace,” the release said.

The Compassionate Mandala Tour “will raise awareness for the beautiful Tibetan culture, the Namgyal monks exiled after the Chinese invasion of Tibet, and the Tibetan Children’s Village in Dharamsala.
