A new library of Buddhist references will be dedicated at the Buddhist Temple of Alameda, 2325 Pacific Ave., Sunday, March 16, immediately following the 10 a.m. Spring Higan (Crossing Over to the Other Shore of Enlightenment) service.

The guest speaker for the Higan service will be the Rev. Brian Nagata, president of the Numata Center for Buddhist Translation and Research in Berkeley.

The Numata Center is publishing English translations of the Chinese Buddhist Canon.

The library is being dedicated in memory of Mr. and Mrs. Zenjuro Shibata whose descendent families are funding the temple's Buddhist education programs.

Although the library's collection is not very large yet, it does contain English translations of almost all of the primary scriptural bases of East Asian Buddhism, particularly of Shin Buddhism and commentaries thereon.

The library will be open to the public every Sunday morning following the 10 a.m. service, and at other times through special arrangement with the Rev. Zuikei Taniguchi, at 522-5243.
