The public is invited to the Buddhist Temple of Alameda's spring 2009 public lectures to be given at the temple at 2325 Pacific Ave. from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday evenings, April 16, 23 and 30. The three lectures on "The Essence of Buddhism: Understanding the Basics of the Dharma" will be given by Rev. Ken Yamada of the Berkeley Higashi Hongwanji Buddhist Temple. Light refreshments will be served following the lectures.

Study classes on "Shin Buddhism in the Contemporary World" open to anyone who wishes to attend are conducted every Sunday morning from 9:15 to 10 a.m. at the Buddhist Temple of Alameda. The class is currently studying "The Dhammapada," one of Theravada Buddhism's most esteemed texts comprised of 423 aphorisms said to have been spoken by the Buddha, comparing the differences in translations by Buddhist translators and non-Buddhist translators and relating the Buddha's guidance to contemporary understanding of human behavior.
