We are the Indonesian Theravada Buddhist Group, which consists of The Indonesian Theravada Buddhist Council (MAGABUDHI) and The Indonesian Theravada Buddhist Youth Association (PATRIA) together with the Theravada Buddhist community in Indonesia, would like to express our deepest concern with the recent development in Myanmar, whereby many Buddhist monks were beaten up, arrested, fired at and killed during the peaceful demonstrations that occurred in the past few days.

In Buddhism, monks are very much revered to, as they are disciples of Lord Buddha, who teaches us the universal loving kindness, wisdom, peace and compassion through the Dhamma. We are shocked to see how the Buddhist monks were treated. We appeal strongly to the Myanmar Government to stop harming the monks and stop raiding the Buddhist monasteries, which are sacred and valuable assets of Myanmar.

We also appeal to the Myanmar Government to avoid using forces and violence in solving the current situation in Myanmar and negotiate peacefully instead.

Your kind attention on this urgent and serious matter is very much appreciated.

May the people of Myanmar find the peaceful solution towards the current issues.

May peace prevail in Myanmar and in allparts of the world.
