MUMBAI, India -- A Buddhist monk from Gautam Nagar in Deonar committed suicide by consuming pesticide on Friday evening. The suicide note left behind by him did not blame anyone, however, the police have deployed more officials in the vicinity and other sensitive Dalit areas because Friday’s incident came only a days after the death of another Buddhist monk (see here).
{GAD)Recently, 75-year-old Bante Mahathero was found dead inside his room and neighbours alleged foul play.
On Friday, 40-year-old Buddhist monk Kashap, who had come to Mumbai from Latur a few years ago, was found dead. Officials said some people saw Kashap vomiting and froth coming out of his mouth around 5 pm.
They immediately rushed him to Rajawadi Hospital where his condition worsened. He was later taken to Sion Hospital but he died on the way, police said.
Investigators recovered one bottle of Pretofos, a pesticide, from his room and registered an accidental death report. Further investigations are on.
The suicide, written in Marathi, stated: "Those who are responsible for killing Bhante Mahathero should be severely punished so that such a thing is not repeated again in future."
